We would like to clarify our understanding of what is visible in the footage. It appears that Staff Person #2 was kneeling over Child #1 rather than sitting or placing their full body weight on the child. We understand that, regardless of the staff member's position or intent, the interaction could reasonably be perceived as restricting the child's movement and was not an appropriate method of responding to the child's behavior. The facility does not intend for this clarification to minimize or dismiss the concern. We recognize the importance of ensuring that all staff interactions with children are safe, appropriate, and consistent with positive guidance practices.The Director reviewed the incident with the staff involved and reinforced that staff must never use aggressive, forceful, or inappropriate physical interactions with children. All staff will be reminded that children must be treated with patience, dignity, and respect and that physical intervention may not be used as a form of discipline or behavior management. Staff #2 was removed from the family and placed on a one week suspension pending investigation, review and statements from peers and management surrounding incident. |
