The Apexx summer camp is a sham. We were promised that our child would be well taken care of, learn, have fun, and be in a safe, healthy, supportive environment. Everything was a major disappointment and a lie. The $200+ per week “camp” is in an empty dirty dollar store in the Galleria mall. The only contents of the dirty dollar store is dirty peeling-up carpet, which is a safety hazard and randomly placed support poles. Before signing our child up for 2 weeks of hell, we were told that the place was undergoing a major renovation to paint, clean, replace the floor, and build out stations. None of that happened. Kids sit and lay on the dirty carpet. They spend a large amount of time in isolation in “quiet time” or timeout, with no reason. We were told that the camp had specialist able to work with non-neurotypical children. Instead there are groups on young teenagers that spend their time playing on their phones, yelling at the kids to be quiet, sit down, and go to time out. The kids change from day to day so there is no consistent person in charge to speak to. They give no communication about how our child is doing. We informed them that our child has special needs, and they did not know or care, even though we previously informed the camp. On Thursday’s they have a field trip that costs an additional $15. One was to a skating center, admission is $5, the other $10 goes back to Apexx. My child was given no coaching or support. He never skated before, so he needed help. They did not try to teach him or offer him a support. Instead they refused to help him and let him run off to go climb around wherever he wanted, unsupervised. On Friday’s they have a $6 surcharge for a slice of pizza, cookie, and bottle water. We paid cash for these add-ons, but they stored our information and charged our credit card without authorization, including an additional $1.99 charge for the inconvenience of them performing this unauthorized charge. My child did not bring home any crafts or anything from the camp other than germs, bad attitude, and sadness. Our child begged to not go back each day, so we ended up skipping two of the ten days we paid for. Then on the last day, I decided to give it one more try. I walked around to the mall side where you can watch the kids in the dirty dollar store and saw that every kid was sitting alone and not allowed to talk or move. Within 10 minutes of bringing him, I went back and took him out. We were extremely disappointed in this experience. There was no support, the activities were almost non-existent, they did not show care, the facility was dirty and uncared for, my child did not have fun. We asked for a refund after the second day and they just said all sales are final. AVOID this summer camp in the Galleria mall with Apexx, it is full of lies.
