Description: Traditionally, academic success was measured by the mastery of rote memorization skills like being able to recite the alphabet and count to ten. These skills can be acquired, but it doesn¿t mean children understand what they learned. In order to create successful learners, we teach children how to think critically about their world. We strive to teach children to interact with others positively and effectively. We encourage children to actively explore their environment, challenge them to solve problems, and contemplate issues that are relevant to their universe. We provide a responsive environment that is warm and consistent so your child feels secure and comfortable to explore. Every teacher at our center recognizes that each child joins us at different stages of development and is motivated by his/her own experiences before joining us. Using this knowledge allows us to facilitate a meaningful and personalized learning experience. The quality of any program is determined by the education, knowledge, experience, and training of our directors and teachers. As the owner, I have my Master's in Education. My Bachelor¿s degree is in Elementary Education with a concentration in Child Psychology. I¿m a licensed teacher with two endorsements: early childhood education, birth-age five, and elementary education, Kindergarten - grade six in the state of VT. Together with Tracy and her degrees in both ECE and business management, we are a strong combination for leadership success. We strive to hire the most qualified, highest educated teachers available to our field. Our individual center directors hold degrees and have experience in leadership, having been part of our LOU family for several years, which ensures they truly understand our philosophy and mission. All of our head teachers have a degree in ECE or a related field or enough credits to be recognized by the State of Vermont as equivalent to a degree program. We motivate our teachers with multiple incentives to consistently continue their education. Our assistant teachers are required to take a 45-hour course in Child Development within their first year in the ECE field. We work with, train, and grow our assistant teachers to become head teachers, increasing the likelihood that they remain in ECE and are committed to our LOU Family. All teachers are required to remain current in ECE best practice. The Child Development Division requires every teacher to take 15 hours of training per year. Our center requires that our teachers engage in 30 hours per year to meet the requirement for the highest level of STARS in specific areas. We work closely with every teacher to ensure that they have a thorough understanding of our mission and create professional development goals that match our center's needs and their current educational level. At LOU, we consider ourselves co-learners and collaborators with your child. We facilitate your child¿s learning by planning activities and lessons based on their interests, asking questions to further their understanding, and actively engaging in the activities with your child. We expand their learning by collecting data such as photographs, notes, videos, and conversations that can be reviewed later and guide our curriculum planning.
