Description: Traditionally academic success is measured by the mastery of rote memorization skills like being able to recite the alphabet and count to ten. These skills can be acquired but doesn¿t mean children understand what they learned. In order to create successful learners, we must teach children how to think critically about their world. We strive to teach them to solve problems and interact with others in a positive and effective way. This is achieved when we encourage children to actively explore their environment, challenge them to solve problems and contemplate issues that are relevant to their universe. We provide a responsive environment that is warm and consistent so your child feels secure and encouraged to explore. Every teacher at our center recognizes that each child joins us at different stages of development and is motivated by his/her own experiences prior to joining us. Using this knowledge allows us to facilitate a meaningful and personalized learning experience. The quality of any program is greatly determined by the education, knowledge, experience and training of our directors and teachers. As the director I have my Masters in Education. My Bachelor¿s degree is in Elementary Education with a concentration in child Psychology. I¿m licensed to teach children from birth through grade 6 in the state of VT. Combined with Tracy and her degrees in both ECE and business management we are a strong combination for leadership success. We strive to hire the most qualified, highest educated teachers available to our field. All of our head teachers have a degree in ECE or related field recognized by the State of Vermont as equivalent to a degree program. Our assistant teachers take a 45-hour course in Child Development within their first year of employment. We encourage them to continue their education journey with us and become qualified to be a head teacher. The Child Development Division requires every teacher working in ECE to take 15 hours of training per year, our center requires 41 to meet the requirement for the highest level of STARS. We work closely with every teacher to ensure that they have a thorough understanding of our mission and create professional development goals that match our center needs. At LOU we consider ourselves co learners and collaborators with your child. Teachers facilitate your child¿s learning by planning activities and lessons based on their interests, asking questions to further their understanding, and by actively engaging in the activities with your child. The teachers expand their learning by collecting data such as photographs, notes, videos, and conversations that can be reviewed later. Our teachers maintain an active role in the activity to ensure that your child clearly understands what is being ¿taught¿. We look forward to an exciting year of learning with your child. It will consist of developmentally appropriate enriching experiences that challenge and engage your child so they become more independent and foster a love of lifelong learning. We build their confidence as learners by celebrating their creativity and imagination and encouraging them to be the true creator of their own masterpieces.
