| Findings: LS has never seen children on the provider's deck or play equipment until today. Provider stated she uses the deck for the children because she feels the front yard is too close to the road and is 'too dangerous'. The deck has never been listed as 'off limits' on the registration certificate, but when LS observed deck today and measured the height of the deck railing (38") and the space between the slats (just under 5"), the railing does not meet the requirements listed in the 'barrier policy' of the Office of Child Care, as the deck is higher than 7 feet off the ground. Provider should immediately stop using the deck for outdoor activities and LS will add the deck to the restrictions on the registration certificate. LS will send provider a copy of the "barrier policy" so she can determine if she wishes to make corrections to the deck to allow it to be approved.
