On the playground, the wire mesh fencing at the back left of the fencing was observed to have greater than five sharp points at the base of the fencing pointing inward. Two sides of the metal underpinning of the shed within the fenced-in area (on the left, facing away from the home) at the base were observed to be jagged and sharp to the touch. In the kitchen, aerosol room freshener spray, aerosol cooking oils, probiotic supplements, spray cleansers, stainless steel cleaning wipes, and other items labeled Keep Out of Reach of Children with additional warnings were also observed in unlocked storage. In the space off the kitchen used for the washer and dryer (unable to be locked), multiple laundry detergents, dryer sheets, and other household cleansers labeled Keep Out of Reach of Children with additional warnings were observed in unlocked storage. All other rooms off the hallway, with the exception of the bathroom, were observed to be locked during the visit. The First Aid kit was observed in unlocked storage and contained an ice pack labeled Keep Out of Reach of Children with additional warnings which had separated, spilling the internal contents into the kit. Ms. Grant placed this kit into locked storage until she could clean out and reorganize the contents of this kit.The outdoor learning environment was surrounded by two types of fencing, greater than four feet high: standard metal fencing and wire mesh fencing secured to wooden and metal posts. The wire mesh fencing was observed to be rusting, with greater than five sharp points, and heavy brush was observed growing through greater than fifty percent of the fencing, which can encourage vermin and harbor the growth of toxic plants. Ms. Grant is considering using the Expansion Grant to upgrade the playground fencing. Toward the center of the playground (facing the playground from the home), the lid of an outdoor storage bin was observed to be cracked and sharp to the touch, and the sides of the bin were observed to have heavily rusted hinges. | |||
