| Findings: Center added an employee, LM, in August 2023. Center received fingerprints for LM dated 8-1-23, but results were never received by OCC. Center sent 365 form to OCC on 8-30-23 and LS sent that to CJIS on the same day. No results were received from CJIS, so LS sent the 365 form to CJIS again on 9-11-23. LS recd MD and FBI results, dated 9-14-23, on 9-19-23. LS emailed Center on 9-19-23 that results had been received and LM was cleared to work. LM has been working since late August and has opened the center in the morning, therefore being alone with some children until other cleared employees arrived. COMAR 13A.16.02I states 'the operator may not allow an employee, staff member, substitute or volunteer to be assigned to a group of children or have access to a child in care until the individual has successfully passed the child abuse and neglect clearance and a federal or State criminal background check or be alone with a child or group of children until all checks have been successfully passed'. Center is reminded no employee should begin work until LS sends an email to center stating the employee is cleared to work. | |||

| Findings: The use and occupancy permit for child care from the county and the child care license limit the program's capacity to 19 children. During inspection today, Licensing Specialist observed 26 children present for the child care summer program. There was an additional child present, but that child's parent was present and he was only at the center for an hour for a lesson. The space measures for more than 19 children and there is adequate staff present for the number of children present, but the use and occupancy permit issued by the county only allowed the Office of Child Care to issue a license for 19 child care children. Center is reminded there should be no more than 19 children present in care at any one time. Children return to school on Monday, August 28 and Owner stated there are only 17 children enrolled for before and after care for the school year. LS is due to conduct another inspection of this program by the end of September. | |||

| Findings: The exhaust fans in both bathrooms have a large amount of lint on them and the vents are almost completely covered. There is one ceiling tile in the women's bathroom that has a brown water stain and also has a black stain on it that could be mildew or mold. Bathroom exhaust fans should be cleaned and the ceiling tile should be replaced. Owner should have landlord check the ceiling in the women's bathroom to ensure there is not water dripping and there is no water damage or mold. | |||

| Findings: During inspection today, Licensing Specialist observed a tool box with a screwdriver, hammer and utility knife within reach of children, as well as many cleaning products on a shelf that is accessible to the school age children enrolled in the program. Center should relocate these items to a location that is inaccessible to the children, keeping in mind that all of the children enrolled are school aged and are of varying heights. | |||
