2018-07-30 | Complaint | 13A.16.08.01A(2)(b) | Corrected |
Findings: The complaint alleges the teachers leave the children unattended in the classroom to use the bathroom. It is also alleged the teachers do not watch the children in the bathroom. The school age teacher allegedly leaves her classroom to talk to another teacher for 10 to 15 minutes leaving the children unattended. The director stated a staff member was terminated for leaving the preschool I room unattended during naptime for about 20 minutes while she was out of town. When staff members need to use the bathroom, the center can combine classes as numbers are lower to help supervise the children. Two of the classrooms are close enough a staff could walk in between to watch the children if a staff member needs to use the bathroom. The director is unaware of the school age staff member leaving the room unsupervised. Most children can use the bathroom unassisted and will go to the bathroom unsupervised. The classrooms are directly next to the bathrooms. Children can be heard while using the bathroom by the staff members. The school age bathroom is located directly in the school age bathroom. Supervision was appropriate at the time of the inspection. |
