Provider Response: (Contact the State Licensing Office for more information.) The YMCA of Reading & Berks County has updated the Emergency Response Plan for Y Care at Schuylkill Valley Elementary to ensure full compliance with DHS regulations regarding parent communication during and after emergencies. The revised plan now includes clear procedures for notifying parents as soon as reasonably possible when an emergency occurs, as well as specific steps for informing parents when the emergency has ended and providing instructions for safe reunification with their children. Parents will be contacted promptly through ClassDojo, email and direct phone calls once children are accounted for and in a safe location. The site director will be responsible for initiating these communications, with a designated backup staff member identified to ensure there is no delay. Once an emergency has ended. parents will receive follow up communication through the same methods with clear instructions regarding reunification procedures. Children will only be released to authorized adults who present photo identification, and all reunification will take place at the designated relocation site. To maintain ongoing compliance, all staff will be trained annually on the emergency response plan, including parent communication and reunification procedures. New staff will be trained at the time of hire, prior to working independently with children. Emergency drills will incorporate communication practice and documentation of drills, staff training, and plan revisions will be maintained on site for DHS review. The plan will be reviewed annually, or after an emergency event to ensure continued accuracy and effectiveness. |
