Findings: Upon arrival, specialist observed a child under the age of 1 sleeping in a porta crib in the first of two connecting rooms in the child care area. Provider was serving lunch to the other children in care in the second of the two connecting rooms. As per regulations, a resting or napping child younger than the age of 2 shall remain within sight AND sound of the provider or substitute at all times. The concern of the two connecting rooms has been discussed with provider at past inspections. The rooms with the passageway do not allow observation and supervision of children in both rooms at the same time. Provider will use only one room at a time for all children (ages birth-preschool) in care and monitor on an ongoing basis to ensure safety and compliance. As per COMAR 13A.15.08.01E, provider may use a video AND sound monitoring system if she chooses to have a child under the age of 2 resting or napping in the adjoining room.
