Mount Alvernia Day Care And Learning Center

If you are looking to enroll in this child care facility, you may want to look other places because they are due to close this year. They have been beating around the bush with the parents and staff for several months and now in the new year it seems more evident each week that the center will be closing for good come June.

My daughter was enrolled for one year. I witnessed a four month old baby with his bottle propped with a stuffed animal. He couldn't hold the bottle independently. I brought it to the attention of staff who debated me on why they thought it was ok. So I called the state who followed up on it. This was the worst of about five standout negative experiences.

I have mixed feelings about this daycare--however, our experience has mostly been negative. My son attended for the first year and a half of his life. We liked (did not love) the younger and older baby rooms. The women were kind, but they always seemed overworked and very busy. 1. That's one thing we did not like about this daycare--it's large, so there are a ton of kids. I'm sure they comply with teacher/child ratios, but it's still always chaotic.
2. My son had a stomach virus for months while attending Mt. Alvernia. It would go away and come right back, and it was AWFUL. I know parents of other children who are enrolled here and still having this problem with the stomach virus. Lunches are not provided by the facility, so it can't be the food, but there is something that is causing this virus to spread, and continue to thrive in the daycare.
3. When my son moved to the ones room, the main teacher was NOT as kind as the ones in the baby room--in fact, she was rude to both my husband and I on several occasions, which made me worry that she would take her frustration out on our son, or treat him differently. I have no proof that she did, but the worry was enough.
4. I was informed by another parent of an incident where a shelf fell on a child and broke his arm. That was the last straw--after that, we removed our son.

Nothing major ever happened, just a series of things we didn't like or weren't comfortable with. I don't recommend this daycare due to our experiences.

Both my son and I love this facility. My son was 3 months old when we started. He is now 19 months and in the "ones". What I do love the most is that this day care is far from the busy city street and so green and the air is fresh. It is affordable. I like that we send their lunch so that parents have the control of what their children eat. We send our snacks and drinks although the staff provides some snacks for the kids to share. Overall, we love it there! My child never cried when I was leaving him there and doesn 't want to leave! :) They make a lot of "art projects" and I have a stack of them at home. We have our favorite teachers but I never had anything negative to say about anybody there... I guess we'll see what future years show but so far everything is great!

My child has been in this daycare since she was 4 months old. Not only does she fall in love with the teachers and activities in each room, I find it hard to switch rooms each year with her because the teachers are so wonderful. She just transitioned to the 3 year old room and LOVES it. She is constantly coming home singing new songs and knowing new letters and numbers. She tells me on the weekends that she wants to go to "school".
I can't say enough about this facility. They are great to work with and have done nothing but positive things with my child. I would highly recommend to anyone.

Our child's experience at this care center has been just okay. The first 2yrs with the toddler programs was good, staff is attentive, fun and kids seem happy. The trouble came when he/she entered the preschool program. We have hardly received any projects, parent letters or info on what the children are learning in 7months & the children never seemed to be doing any constructive or group activities. We thought maybe the next class up would be a more positive experience but it seems the 4yr old program wasn't much more successful. Sure, our child LOVES to play, but what about numbers, letters, colors & shapes? Holding a pencil or going to the bathroom? There's not much encouragement in these areas. We are currently searching around for other Pre-K programs because we don't want to take the chance on yet another boring & unsuccessful year. My advice would be to plan to visit these classrooms while in session to see exactly what is being taught & learned.

This is by far a 5 star day care . The cost is reasonable and affordable. I have had my daughter there since she was 8 weeks old (she's now 3) and I have another one on the way, which will also be loved and cared for at this daycare. I have nothing but great things to say and i have peace of mind every day knowing my child is taken care of and being nurtured. She learns something new every day there and there is structured play and learning so there is nothing better you could ask for. It's very close to my home and is just the perfect place.

I also cannot agree with angry parent at all. We started my daughter in the infant room when she was 3 months old and we have had a wonderful experience! We loved every teacher she had in the infant room and couldn't have been happier with our choice to bring her here. Don't listen to angry parent!!

I just noticed the review from "Angry Parent" in May. My son is 4 years old now and loves the school. I do not know what they were talking about. I know of no room that has 47 children. Sure, we have our favorite teachers there but we feel happy at how our son has grown since he started there. I pass by the infant room every week and it too is about as nice as you can get without having them at home. Maybe the "Angry Parent" had a bad experience, but we have not.

By far the worst place around, they call it a catholic center, meanwhile teachers are screaming at teachers, and teachers are screaming at kids. Have nearly 47 kids in one room and the infant room is just horrible. No tender loving care like they say. Best advice would be to keep your kid away. This daycare used to be great, but it is going down hill very quick and the adminstrator does not care AT ALL; because she is never there. And not to mention the crazy teacher they have teaching the so called "pre-k program" my advise, look at other centers and stay clear!! The kids here are nothing but numbers, you ask teachers and all they do is cover everything up..

This learning center is wonderful! Our son started less than two months ago. He is three and never was in daycare. He had a few hard weeks, but he loves school now. The teachers are all warm, loving, and wonderful.

It makes me wish that I went to this school when I was younger. I highly recommend this school. The campus, the teachings, the price - all are wonderful. This place is truly a gem that we are happy we discovered.
