About the Provider

Description:

Van Riper Ellis Christian School has classes for 2 1/2 year olds - 5.  The classes offered are  "Bridge to Threes" Pre-K3, Pre-K4 and Transitional Kindergarten.

Children elligible for the Bridge to Threes class turn three between October 1st and March 1st of the school year. 

Transitional Kindergarten provides a developmentally appropriate program for children who miss the public school cut off. It also prepares older fours with readiness skills to enter Kindergarten and ensure a strong start to their educational career.  Children eligible for Transitional Kindergarten have birthdays between September 1st and December 31st.



VRECS Transitional Kindergarten Program offers:  the developmentally appropriate Creative Curriculum for Preschool which is aligned to the National Standards, Language Arts Literacy, "Hands-On" Math and Science, Creative Play, Active Play and Interest Areas as well as Enrichment ActivitiesWe are a non-profit, interracial, and Christ-centered institution. The school is a licensed facility that complies with all applicable provisions of the N.J. Manual of Requirements and maintains a facility that insures high-quality care and education for your children. We work collaboratively to establish ongoing communications with families and to maintain mutual understanding to ensure that the children's learning and developmental needs are met.

Meet the Director :  Robin Wetzel has over 30 years experience in Early Childhood Education.  She began her career as a Reading Specialist in the Paterson Public School system. She then taught Kindergarten thru Third Grade.  Her passion and excitement for teaching can be seen throughout the school.  With her guidance and direction our students are well prepared for when they move on to a Kindergarten program.  The Fair Lawn school system acknowledges that when they receive a student who has attended Van Riper they have been well prepared for school.

As a condition of securing a license or Certificate of Life/Safety Approval, the sponsor or sponsor representative shall ensure that a Criminal History Record Information (CHRI) fingerprint background check is completed for himself or herself, and for all staff members at least 18 years of age who are or will be working at the center on a regularly- scheduled basis, to determine whether any such person has been convicted of a crime, as specified in P.L. 2000, c. 77 (N.J.S.A. 30:5B-6.10 to 6.17). The sponsor or sponsor representative and each staff member shall complete the electronic fingerprinting process through the vendor authorized by the State to conduct CHRI background checks through the Division of State Police in the Department of Law and Public Safety and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Violation Observed: Ensure that all staff, the sponsor and/or the sponsor representative complete a CHRI background check as required. Ensure all staff with CHRI clearances prior to 2021 are re-fingerprinted.

The children shall be supervised directly by a staff member at all times, including during outdoor activities, rest and sleep, and walking through hallways. Toileting procedures shall be supervised by a staff member as appropriate for the ages and developmental needs of the children.

Violation Observed: On the day of the inspection two staff were observed sitting on a the bench on the playground while the children played in areas, and on the climbing equipment, and the staff did not have line of sight of all of the children. Ensure that staff are walking around the playground and actively supervising the children at all times.
