Correction Required: Staff persons shall participate, at least annually, in fire safety training conducted by a fire protection professional. Staff persons and volunteers shall receive training in maintenance of smoke detectors, the duties of facility persons during a fire drill and during a fire and the use of the facility's fire extinguishers, not including discharge of the fire suppressant agent.

It was reported that one school age child held the door so they would not be locked out while the two other school aged children proceeded to take the garbage down to the dumpster at the end of the driveway. Those school aged children then returned to the door to give the school age child who was holding the door a turn to take another bag of garbage down to the dumpster. The school aged children were not accompanied by a staff person. leaving the school aged children in a ratio of 0:3.

Noncompliance Area: When interviewed, multiple staff members reported that there were times when the staff would be out of ratio while caring for children. Staff members stated that during the summer months that the preschool/school age class could have as many as 16 preschool aged and school aged children with only one staff member. Staff members also stated that there have been times when the older toddlers and young toddlers would combine and there would be 10 children with one staff member.

Correction Required: When children are grouped in mixed age levels, the age of the youngest child in the group determines the staff:child ratio and maximum group size in accordance with the requirements in § 3270.51 (relating to similar age level).
