The Yurok Tribe offers half-day and/or full-day Early Head Start and Head Start programs with Tribal preference at all of the Early Childhood Education Centers; including at the newest location in the south area at 3400 Erie Street Eureka; the Ke’pel Center in the east area’ and the Klamath Center. Hours of operation may vary by Center location. Early Head Start and Head Start are federally funded programs and have strict eligibility requirements, with Tribal preference, TANF, homeless, foster care, SSI, special needs and low income children having priority. (For Head Start, children must be three years old and four year olds have priority over three year olds.) Early Head Start serves pre-natal to age three. The Yurok Tribe also offers a Full Day Child Care program which serves all eligible Native American children* (federally recognized, California Roll, and/or direct descendant to a Yurok Tribal member), which can extend the Head Start program to a full day. The Child Care program is also federally funded, and has different eligibility requirements.
