The staff person was suspended immediately, without pay while the incident was being investigated internally, and by DHS who we notified of the incident within 24 hours. We have a camera systemic each classroom and outdoors that records each days activities and is viewed throughout the day. Every staff person must have proper clearances, criminal and child abuse, and FBI fingerprinting and are properly trained including becoming a mandated reporter. As a mandated reporter you are required to make a report if you have reasonable cause to suspect child abuse. They must make a report to Child Line first, prior to notifying the facility for which they are employed by. Abuse will not occur at the facility.

The facility person did not punish or spank a child. She was redirecting the child from a laying position to a sitting position. We do not punish at the Growing Tree. This has always been and will continue to be our policy which is described below. Discipline is used to help children learn acceptable behavior for themselves and toward others. A part of discipline is setting limits for the child's safety and the safety of others. Discipline shall include positive guidance, redirection, and the setting of clear-cut limits that foster the child's ability to become self-disciplined. Disciplinary measures shall be clear and understandable to the child, shall be consistent, and shall be explained to the child before and at the time of disciplinary action. It is important that we guide the children to developing self-control and orderly conduct in his/her relationships with peers and adults. Caregivers shall show children positive alternatives rather than just telling children "no." Always explain the why. Good behavior shall be rewarded. Caregivers shall work with children without recourse to physical punishment or abusive languages.
