Dear Reader, please be mindful of what you read on the internet. The former parent who wrote the review for The Beddow School on 1/18/2013 has been engaged in a smear campaign against this school for the past two years that borders on cyber bullying. The statements in this review are patently false and defamatory in nature. The writer of that review has had no contact with the school for the past two years. The nature of these attacks appears to be intended to retaliate against the school to negatively affect the continued operation of the school and deprive future students of the opportunity to have an excellent education. The totality of the remarks against the school appears to meet the legal definition of defamation. It is very curious that the same verbiage in this 1/18/2013 review by Nighty Night can be read on other websites under different names (savvysource under pm_2; Findthebest under Lorraine Radcliff; Google under B. Williams - it was under James A. until Google removed the post and yet this person posted it again under B. Williams; Yelp and Yahoo have removed these posts because of the defamatory remarks.)
The teachers we had were excellent, the facilities were average, and the communication between the parents and school staff left much to be desired (and often bordered on hostile). The head of school gets along just fine with the parents until they ask the wrong questions, then you see what happens when a school has no competition and think they are "the only game in town". Fortunately that is no longer the case, and we had the pleasure of attending another Montessori school not too far away that had none of the issues Beddow has. The fact that they are not accredited or affiliated with ANY Montessori organization should have been a big red flag.
The year we spent there was stressful, full of drama and quite unpleasant. The head of school does not help the situation by treating some of the parents with disrespect, and taking absolutely no responsibility for things under the school's control. Parents that had the unfortunate luck to end up on her "black list" ( of which there were quite a few) ended up paying a lot of money to be treated like dirt, needless to say we were only 1 of MANY families that did not return to the school the next year.
