2019-11-25 | Complaint | 13A.16.08.01B(2) | Corrected |
Findings: LS interviewed four staff members regarding the complaint made about a lack of playground supervision. Two staff members stated that when the AM class goes outside to the unfenced playground and one child needs to go back inside (i.e. for the bathroom, first aid, etc.), one staff member will go stand at the classroom door in between indoors and outdoors while the other staff member remains on the playground with the rest of the class (sometimes with more than 10 children present). LS discussed that this is not appropriate supervision for the group as one staff is left out of ratio with more than 10 children in some cases. LS discussed that if one staff was at the building door and one on the playground, immediate intervention and appropriate care could not happen. With the procedures that were shared with LS, the AM class is out of ratio when one staff member returns to the building with one child. LS advised that either the whole class needs to return indoors in those situations or if both staff are lead qualified, the groups could be split appropriately when needing to go indoors for bathroom trips, first aid, etc. That way, staff are able to provide appropriate individual care. | |||

Findings: LS interviewed four staff members regarding the complaint made about child security and lack of supervision. It was stated that this happens because it's an emergency that the child needs to go inside. LS discussed child security with the staff and that in those cases, proper child/staff ratios need to be maintained.
