We had one of our three sons registered to attend this school this Fall in the 2 year old program, he was so excited. Unfortunately, this school discriminates and is allowed to be non-ADA compliant because they are a "religious" school.
Our 2 year old had two back to back seizures over the summer, which as many know is not uncommon for this age group. As preventative measure his doctors put him on seizure meds and gave us rescue meds in the event he had another seizure and in circumstances needed to be used. Doctors fully cleared him to continue with normal life activities of a 2 year old with no restrictions.
The director for this program Joanne Pritchard showed anxiety about having a child with seizure disorders when we notified her. We asked to set up a meeting to explain how common seizures were and how unlikely he was to even have another. She reluctantly set up the meeting and the next day prior to the meeting called my wife to essentially say they had signed our son off and didn't want him in their program.
The meeting still went on, although it was very "cold". The director, assistant director, teacher and teachers aide were all present. None of them brought notepads to the meeting, they didn't bring our sons file to the meeting, and in a small room with doors closed my wife attempted to educate the staff.
Director Prtichard said in our case she couldn't expect her staff to call 911 in an emergency because they wouldn't get there fast enough. Even though a fire house is one block away and another is two blocks away. She said the teachers were not trained to administer medicine (and we got the impression that she had no intent to have them trained).
We explained that kids choking, diabetic attack, falling and busting head open were likely to be more of an issue for kids than our kids episode of seizures in the months prior.
This school is not equipped to handle children with emergencies. The staff are open to hand selecting children that are "perfect". Please reconsider sending your child here, we thought it was a great fit, but so glad we found out now rather than having our kid die in their hands or having our kid see another kid die in their hands.
