I really tried to avoid going here, but a 40+ year old "business owner" is refusing to pay me what she owes IN A PANDEMIC, or even communicate regarding the matter.
Working with 7 Oaks was the most unorganized experience I’ve had in a while. Upon hire Erica Gwyn sold a dream that she has yet to attain. A place for “growth” and “mentorship” is advertised, but that’s far from what you’ll get. Upon hire I received my schedule for the first week of work. The first 2 days were to be half-days to fill out paperwork. Neither was a half day. “Salaried” (50k BEFORE taxes) 12 month employees do not receive the same break teachers (although these said breaks are advertised as part of your package) I knew then I would be leaving immediately and began taking interviews elsewhere.
Prior to my separation from 7 Oaks Erica Gwyn claimed we would be paid on August 13th (we were originally told the 27th, but I guess this was her being “nice”). As of Tuesday August 10th I was no longer an employee. On Friday I received no pay, emailed politely asking about it to receive no reply.
“Good morning,
Will my first/last check come via direct deposit today, on the 27th, or via check?
Respectfully,
My Name”
Emailed again this morning, no reply.
Good morning again,
Not trying to be a bother, but I again am wondering when my check will be available? I know you verbally said the 13th but perhaps that was for employees. If I'm to wait until the 27th or for a paper check that's fine, but I'd like to know.
Emailed the new principal she’s hired, no reply. My email was inquiring about my pay date. I assume she isn’t paying me on the 13th, hence it’s the 16th. Being the adult businesswoman she claimed to be, I would’ve expected my question answered as rapidly as emails are usually replied to, but I suppose the “Grady baby” she told us she was is coming out and my paycheck is in limbo due to it. I have made an appointment with the Department for Labor for tomorrow 8/27 just in case my payment doesn’t come then either. Being upset is fine, playing with people’s money in a pandemic is not.
Thankfully, our family attorney has advised me to go ahead and file for small claims court at the top of business tomorrow as she refuses to settle or communicate on a $1500 check I worked for and am still waiting on. As my first day was July 26th, August 27th would make 4 weeks and 4 days (32 days) since my official start with no pay. As this was the original plan, I would’ve been fine had I been informed of the change; given the rapid transpiration of events, I am trying to understand the financial impact to me, but since I can’t garner a reply from anyone, I have to assume the worst.
If you enjoy fake facades and smiles for her to behave as a petulant child in the end, take the risk and apply to work here or put your child in this daycare center.
