Description: In our preschool and pre-kindergarten classes, teachers use the Big Math for Little Kids program from Pearson Education. This program draws on young children's natural mathematical interests and successfully integrates mathematics into their daily routine. Our kindergarten teachers use Houghton Mifflin’s Math Expressions program. This program was designed to lead students to mathematical proficiency by addressing all five strands determined by the National Research Council: conceptual understanding, procedural fluency, strategic competence, adaptive reasoning, and productive disposition. Teachers demonstrate and explain, but also encourage students to do the same. Meaningful activities build initial understanding while additional practice encourages fluency.
