While at OCAB Community Action Agency in Orangeburg, SC I witnessed children being hit, horrible facility conditions, children sleeping in vomit and soiled towels used as blankets, infestation of roaches, staff with criminal history that included arrests for over 20 years, drinking on campus, teachers prostituting themselves with male parents and known drug addicts and employees profiting from drug dealers. Not to mention falsifying attendance records, transportation logs and filing false insurance claims for damages.

It’s sad when an organization receives federal and state funding and is ran by a black person who is suppose to advocate for black children and their families have a large scale of misappropriation of funds and documented child abuse from teachers. I witnessed a teacher hit a child so hard it brought tears the the child’s eye. The Executive Director (ED) was aware of the abuse, but overlooked it. The parent was never informed that her child was physically attacked by the teacher. As a concerned citizens we must hold these so-called leaders in the black community responsible for their actions.

We must stop sending our children to incompetent people with incompetent programs just because you want the child(ren) out of the house. This kind of program causes more harm than good. The betterment of collective work and social responsibility for our children has no bearing within this corrupt organization. These children aren’t learning a damn thing in OCAB’s holding facilities designed by bonafide babysitters, crooks, criminal, drug dealers and prostitutes.

Parents: Homeschool our children or wait for a public school program to become available. The public school programs are managed by the department of education. The head start programs have minimal to no supervision or oversight. The facility and staff on the surface looks like a shiny new penny, but it’s only because the penny is being greased.
