| Findings: The backyard outdoor play area is fenced in, but has hazards that need corrected. Lic. Spec. observed swings hung under the deck over concrete, and a small movable slide on the sidewalk and a swing on the wooden swing set over a wooden deck and another one over paving stones. The risk of serious injury is much greater if moving equipment is used over hard surfaces. Lic. Spec. explained to the provider that the children in care may not use the swings, slides or climbers when they are over hard surfaces. If a child were to fall onto the hard surface from the slide, climber or swing, hitting a hard surface could cause a serious injury. The swings over concrete are to be removed immediately. The paving stones are to be removed from under the swing and the decking is also to be removed. The slide is to be relocated so that is isn't over a hard surface too. Please forward written corrective action within 30 days. There is to be a safe fall zone under all swings, slides, climbing or moving equipment. The fall zone is 6' around any slides, swings, or climbing equipment.. The OCC recommends 9-12" of loose fill materials (such as shredded mulch, sand, or pea gravel) in the 6' fall zones. | |||
