Landeeingdam Daycare has been around for many, many years, and though I had known about it for quite some time, I worked in other places and centers before working at this one.

Coming from other centers where there was little to no team work, being burned out and over worked, I can HONESTLY say that this place cares about its workers and children.

The owner is a well-rounded business woman who has a passion for children. She actually started this daycare because she saw how her own children were being treated at others centers in the town, and decided to go into the daycare world herself, changing the ways children are cared for.

Truthfully, there will always be those type of parents who feel like their childrens needs were not being met or things weren’t being done “their way” because EVERYONE’S childcare experience is different. You simply cannot please EVERY single parent.

That being said, I have personally watched the owner go out of her way to buy children clothes with her own money, feed them with her own money, BATHE the children when they come into the daycare with odors because of lack of proper hygiene at home. She has made home visits on her PERSONAL time to check in on low-income families who were in need. There is even a daycare vehicle used to transport children to and from home, in which the money spent for gas came out of her own POCKET. Because let’s be real, Durham does not pay its workers fairly. But she still showed up for her parents and children. The owner has always been germ conscience and makes sure that when you drop off your child, every parent is treated the same and told to refrain from entering (unless for certain reasons). Mainly because the infant room is the first room seen, and it is important to keep them safe and away from contact with outside people as much as possible.

She ensures each employee is given a break, properly trained, and given rest days as she is big on Mental Health.

As a childcare worker who has worked in a couple different centers, as stated before there will always be parents who complain or have something to say about how things are done. Funnily enough though, the parents who end up making comments like the one above/below, are the same parents who provide lack of care to their own children at home, but expect the child care workers to be on top of their game and make up for what THEY as the parent do not do at home. And you know what, we do it anyways. Because that is the job we signed up for, and no child should have to suffer at the lack of responsibility from a parent.

Lastly, this person who commented years ago sounds absolutely ignorant. There is a door in EVERY room! The infant, toddler, and 3-5 classroom have doors. You were upset because there is a door in the infant room where you THINK the children get cold because of parents dropping off their children….but you’re upset because she wouldn’t let people enter? Backwards. Sign your child in, drop them off, hold a conversation if need be, and leave. Repeat process for pick up. It’s not that hard, it’s not being rude, it’s called setting boundaries for the safety of the workers and employees. As for feeding, there are rules and procedures we are trained to follow. If she is denying something, 9 times out of 10 it is for a REASON.

I hope this background on the center helps whomever.

My experience at Landeeingdam Daycare was a nightmare. The lady who runs the place is VERY unprofessional, and she seems to create problems, rather than being solution focused. She stops you at the door when dropping your child off, telling you not to step on the carpet..?? She has the baby's in the front room where the front door is,where cold air is coming in,and all traffic comes in and out. When I told her my childs feeding schedule, she commented to me that she was not going to feed him every 2 1/2 hours, she would feed him every 4 hours. This was my childs first time at daycare, was used to being home with me,and eating on a 2 1/2 hour schedule. My child was fussy everyday. She called Child services and said something was wrong with him and reccomended him for an assessment!! HELLO??? He was HUNGRY lady!!! My child was miserable there, and I could not wait to get him out of there... Please do not make the same mistake I made in taking him to that daycare.. TRUST ME.. you will be sorry :(
