Description: La Puerta de los Niños, a full-time, non-profit child-centered organization, was established in August, 1971 by several women from the Unitarian Church. Their intention was to provide an excellent childcare experience for their children as well as for children for varying economic and ethnic backgrounds. While the Unitarian Church no longer operates La Puerta, a Board of Directors, comprised of parents whose children attend La Puerta, and staff work with the Director both to continue the founders’ original goals and to establish new Center policy.
In keeping with La Puerta’s goals toward excellence in childcare, during the 1987-88 school year La Puerta staff members voluntarily underwent a comprehensive self-study process sponsored by the National Association for the Education of Young Children.
We feel it is important for parents to share in the growth and learning experiences of their children through frequent communication with the staff. Parent involvement in La Puerta is further encouraged in such areas as serving on the Board of Directors, participating in work days and building projects, participating in fund raisers, and contributing individual skills and talents in the development of our program.
Where possible, ChildcareCenter provides inspection reports as a service to families. This information is deemed reliable, but is not guaranteed. If you ask me why I chose La Puerta de los Ninos my answer is MOTHER INSTINCT!!! After visiting about 6 other day cares the moment I walked into La Puerta I knew this was the place I wanted for my children. My children had been at another 3 day cares and ever since they started at La Puerta there has NOT been one day where they have cried because they do not want to stay, and the best part is that it is ALWAYS hard to get them out of there!! La Puerta has the best staff!! Many of them have been part of the school for over 10 years (turn over ratio at other preschools was one of my biggest fears). My children LOVE every single one of their teachers. Ever since we joined La Puerta, my daughter has blossom in many ways. She not only can now write her first and last name but she can tell me all about dinosaurs (she is 4!)!!! My son, now 3, loves the outdoor play and the outdoor bugs/animals that teachers introduce them to.. and not to mention he LOVES to sing and play instruments with Armando! La Puerta has now moved to a BEAUTIFUL location next to the Bosque trail. You MUST see this place!!... if none of this has interested you yet, let me just say that my children at night after thanking God for family they always add THANK YOU GOD FOR MY TEACHERS!!! :)
