About the Provider
Crook County After the Bell is a cooperative after school program made up of a variety of youth serving organizations including Crook County 4-H, Crook County Parks and Recreation, SMART, Crook County High School, Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Crook County and Crooked River Elementary School. The program operates at Crooked River Elementary school on school days between 3 and 6 p.m. The program occasionally operates on non-school days (week days) between 7:45 a.m. and 6 p.m. Every day, students can get a snack, receive help with homework, mentoring and reading, participate in recreation activities and explore science rich activities through Crook County 4-H. All students K-5th grade are welcome to sign up, but space is limited so there may be a waiting list.
The collaborating partners of Crook County After the Bell believe positive youth development does not happen by chance. It results from intentional efforts of parents, schools, youth organizations, and communities. The approach of this after school program is simple: to provide a safe, academic, and enriching environment for elementary school aged youth throughout the community, whom engage in research based activities which help develop five core competencies needed by youth to experience economic and social success in adulthood while making positive contributions to their communities. The five core competencies include: competence, confidence, connection, character and compassion.Through this dynamic collaboration, children participating in the program will have the opportunity to achieve such competencies through programming intended to improve academic achievement, through the opportunity to experience relationship with caring adults, and through engagement in mentoring programs with high school aged youth. The program will intentionally implement and foster these experiences through three main programming thrusts: science, healthy living, and civic engagement.
