I have used this provider for more than 6 months

2 stars for us.
My son was a student last year. While the Director is great, I just wished my son started school with a teacher
that enjoys kids. My son is active and it seems he did not fit the mold of what a 4 year old should be. He started hating to get up everyday and that just isn't my son. He loves the place he's at now and I truly see the difference of him enjoying school. Our mornings are a piece of cake at the time. I didn't realize that my morning struggle was due to his time in his pre-k and his unhappiness with his teacher. Daisy should be a teacher for older kids. She may be text-book good but at the pre-k age, she needs to learn to be a little warmer to kids this age. She is very dry as someone who should be instilling in my child the love of learning. For example, the Director always had a wonderful greeting whereas Daisy barely smiled. She favored kids and her hello was barely warm. My son said she scolded him numerous times and knew she did not like him. Now while kids can assume that, I did hear her tone to another student and knew exactly what he meant. It wasn't my son, but I wanted to put her in her place for talking to any kid that way. It makes me sad to look back at those days because I was left with no choice but to have him there. Saundra, you have a wonderful place. I hope you can school Daisy to learn how to talk to kids and not yell at them. I saw her throw her hands up in the air at one student out of frustration. Why is that necessary for a 4 year old? I wish I could say 5 stars but the teacher brought down that place. So 2 stars is what they will get from me.

About the Provider

Cathedral Parkway Towers Preschool has been educating and caring for children ages 2 to 4 years old on the west side of Manhattan for the past 30 years. Under the accomplished direction of Director Sandra Hunt-Smith, the preschool continues to draw parents and their children through its welcoming doors. We provide a warm, loving, nurturing environment where children are encouraged to develop their full potential emotionally, socially, physically and intellectually. We are fortunate to have very experienced and talented teachers who genuinely enjoy working with young children. Parents, Teachers and Administrators form a strong partnership to offer the highest quality education to our young children.

Children are encouraged to choose activities from a myriad of learning materials geared to their individual levels of achievement. They are encouraged to persist at tasks, always bringing them to completion. Confidence building activities promote the motivation to accomplish more challenging goals.

Preparing children to read and write proficiently is an important component of the Cathedral Parkway Towers Preschool program. The children are offered literature through interesting and informative activities. They are read to often throughout the day and are given opportunities for exploration of letters and numerals.
