I am an employee

This is glorified abuse. Witnessed a crying 3 year old begging for attention from his mother—who works there—only to get constantly yelled at by his OWN mother to “get away from me!!!”. Me as the new person was apparently supposed to stop him from doing that, when he doesn’t know me and doesn’t respond to me yet. But they didn’t tell me any of that until they yelled at me for not doing it. I did not even know that was his mom and he would be clingy, let alone that I was supposed to stop him from going to his mother. They keep the crying child in the same space as his mother but do not allow him to go near his mother, and then when I—the stranger—do not immediately and without direction yell at the child for following his mother, well that is a reason to yell at me too. Keep kids out in the hot sun and do not let them have water. Kill any imaginative play immediately but then still entertain them somehow? Do not send your kids here, do not work here, do not go near this factory of abuse and neglect.

I am an employee

This woman has zero communication skills at best and is an abject liar at worst. Pressured me into accepting a job when I skipped the third interview. Told me I would start in August and to come in for training and paperwork immediately. She can’t keep track of when I am supposed to be there or let me go on time. She did not pay me for hours worked. She gave me zero directions on what was expected and proceeded to scold me every single time I tried to take the initiative and do something on my own. Scolded me for picking up a child, scolded me for serving a child food, scolded me for sitting, scolded me for not sitting, scolded me for letting the kids help, scolded me for not making the kids help. Told me I was training as an assistant and then scolded me for not behaving like the lead professionals in a setting where my role, the rules, and expectations have never been communicated. Lots of stupid rules are supposed to be enforced that make zero sense. She has trouble keeping help and it is evident why; of course there is zero self-reflection and it couldn’t be due to bad management. I can make more money at ALDI working a register, with better training and better management, tyvm.

I am an employee

Not a good place to work. State ratios and snack portion control not followed. Disrespectful employer. Left implants alone with 15yr old teen. Let another teen bring 15 kids outside by herself. Snack not nutritional. Children put out in separate room with no supervision as punishment. Restrictive on imagination and play.

I have used this provider for more than 6 months

As first time parents finding the perfect care for our son was our number one priority. HAFH has seriously been our sons home away from home and our peace of mind for almost a year now! Jenny and her staff have helped our son thrive and helped us as new parents navigate every new stage. She has taken the time to contact us and offer advice outside school hours & offers her support and encouragement whenever we need it. Jenny’s knowledge, deep understanding and love for children is so apparent. We love that our son has made great friends, gets to be apart of a bigger family, is provided snacks and meals, and even gets brought outside at his young age. We get updates and pictures of him playing almost every week! It warms my heart to see his smile when he sees ANY staff member come to greet him. We know he is loved and cared for there, and we love and are so grateful for HAFH.

I am an employee

No leadership skills what so ever! Don't work here she promises paid training and she doesnt. She won't let employees use bathroom and keeps staff and kids outside during the hottest weather ever. I could just imagine what happens in winter! I wanted to give a child a drink because he was thirsty she said no she don't give kids water on a hot steaming day when outside!!! This is neglect if you ask me and she doesn't treat her employee's with respect especially older one's she has very young staff. The Owner Jenny LaPlante is a crook and doesn't follow state protocol or standards!

Project Construct is an approach to teaching in the preschool, primary, and elementary grades that is based on what we know about learning. The project, begun by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (MDESE) in 1986, incorporates theory-based curricula that are linked to state and national curriculum frameworks and standards.

Home Away From Home Child Care and Beginning Steps Early Learning Center, along with Project Construct feels that children learn best in a hands-on and mind-on environment where the children are experiencing the world around them. At Home Away From Home and Beginning Steps Early Learning Center we try to teach the children things that they are interested in. We may spend three weeks on a theme if the children are interested and in contrast only one if their interests fade.
