Karen's Kids Family Child Care Llc

When I took a tour at Karen's place it was filthy, cluttered, and smelt terrible, but her rates were reasonable and I was running out of affordable child care options. There wasn't an opening at my desired day care, Alverno Early Learning Center, so I placed my daughter at Karen's Kids Family Child Care LLC for the time being. After we were already authorized with this provider and about to start our first day, that is when Karen told me she is taking off from June 11th-21st. After I had already deposited my state child care funds and paid additional fees and balance out of pocket. I brought it to Karen's attention that I had over paid her for the month of June considering she missed 7 days of caring for my daughter, she then insisted I would get a credit for the following month (July.)

When I went for my tour at the in-home daycare, Karen mentioned that her husband is retired and he doesn't come upstairs from the basement while the children are there. I was unable to meet this man, but she then later sent me pictures of my daughter being held by this man. I am a single mother and I don't like when a man that I haven't met is holding my daughter. My daughter from that point on would ask me not to go back because she "didn't like the monster." This is when I knew I had to switch up my child care plan. Ironically, in the same time frame a spot for my daughter had opened up at Alverno, and I no longer wanted continue my partnership with Karen's Kids. I asked Karen to refund me the money that she owes me for the overpayment since she was going to apply it to July. Then she claimed she doesn't give refunds. She continued to text me that it doesn't matter, "I am supposed to pay for her vacation time, just like any other job." I think that this is fraudulent. My daughter had only been there for a week and half before she took this time off. She claims there is nothing she can do regarding a refund for the time she took a vacation, and I am obligated to pay for that time. I also had to find/pay a sitter for those unexpected days. So I paid twice for child care, with only one person taking care of my daughter. She is a five star accredited center, but that is far from what I experienced from the filth, clutter, creepy husband to the poor finance handling.
