I'm not gonna say we're perfect. I'm not gonna say your child will come home in perfect condition. I'm not even going to say that you should come to our child care.
I've been here for every violation except the June 2014 incident. Every incident was addressed, and there were consequences for the employees involved. Some were even terminated as a result. Parents come to us with issues and we address them as soon as we can.
I read a complaint about children being together in the same classroom. This is only done in the morning when we are first opening, and until the teachers determine their classrooms are ready for children to enter. This used to be done at night as well while the children are sleeping, but after complaints, is no longer in practice. We instead addressed the issue, and keep children separated based on age group.
I've read complaints about staff being out of ratio, but this is never the case. If we have a situation in which a staff member would be out of ratio, the director and owner step in to ensure there is an adequate number of staff in the room. That is the main reason the director and owner are often unavailable, because they are in classrooms due to teachers being ill, or teachers needing help. If this was an issue, there would have been a citation above.
The majority of the complaints I'm reading are from former employees, who I could name, but that would be unprofessional. The majority of families that sign up stay with us until they either move, or their children start school. Even when starting school, we'll see these children during the summer.
We've become a tight knit family here at Gerber Child Development Center, and we'd love for you to join us!
I have worked for Gerber for 3 years now and what each review forgets to state is they were employees that were in a full classroom and when they decided to quit and write a bad review they were going to leave out the fact that they were those teachers who walked out of classrooms leaving their room unaccounted for which is against the law and bands you from working in another child care center. And as for the first one she was a pregnant young mom who wanted nothing more than sitting on a chair inside or outside too lazy to get up and go get water or anything for the children. These people that are posting reviews are not educated hence the reason one is still attending classes and the other never did the books or any schooling. Gerber is a good Center and the children are well cared for, second shift care is also available for the convenience of parents who work second shift. This is the one time that reading the reviews will give you a bad outlook on a business both reviews are from employees who quit and instead of titling their faults they labeled them as someone elses!
I worked for this place for 3 months, while pregnant. I was put on mandatory leave of absence even though I could clearly still work. I sent my child here for one day and would not recommend ANYONE sending their children here at all. When I finally did get to be with my child, she was very dehydrated, and cranky because of it. There are many many MANY state laws being broken at this place. They don't always have water available to the children outside no matter how hot it is outside. And they put the infants with the toddlers, and the 2 year olds with the school age kids. The owner and director are rarely at the facility, and a few of the teachers do nothing but yell at the children. I'e seen children go an hour to two hours outside with wet diapers that they just don't change. These children already have horrible diaper rashes.
I am a former employee of Gerber. If you care about the care your child will receive please do not take them here. First of all, Ty Gerber is the owner. He only cares about the money, he doesn't care about your child. I have witnessed Ty get into the faces of young children and yell at them for things they can not help. For example I saw him yell at a boy who just turned 2 a few months ago for crying. He also yelled at a 4 year old girl for defending a teacher that he was yelling and name calling in front of the children. Also, you can expect Ty to be discussing important business matters such as disagreements between teachers in front of your child. Don't get me wrong, there are a couple good teachers there at Gerber, but there are also many states laws that are being broken. A teacher may be out of ratio for a couple hours because there are not enough staff there to cover. Also, if you have a 2 year old, you can expect him or her to be in the same room as up to 12 years old because there are times when ages 2-12 are all combined. This is highly inappropriate as things such as pencil sharpeners, small game pieces, or scissors are left out and unsupervised. Also during these times, you can expect your little one to not be able to get a nap. I have seen children yelled at for crying many times. The only good thing about this child care center is it is open until 11:30 at night but I assure you as an educated and experienced teacher, it is not worth it.
