I disagree completely with Fencing Mom. My child also attended this school for 4 years and I credit his caring, committed teachers with instilling in him his love of learning. He now attends elementary school and loves going to school every day. Obviously, parents need to find a school that fits their and their children's needs. I hope that Fencing Mom is able to find someplace that makes her and her family happy.
My children attended this school for 4 years through the 2011 school year. Over that time I've watched the emphasis go from play-based to achievement-oriented without regard to quality of teaching or parent feedback. For example, in the pre-K classroom, they push spelling words, addition and subtraction, writing simple sentences, and homework. This is mostly accomplshed in the form of worksheets with little actual teaching as the main teacher is a non-native English speaker. This is not developmentally appropriate for this age group (if you check even private school curriculums do not introduce that material until grade 1 or 2); while some clearly thrive, those that do not are labelled "behavioral problems." My 5 year old has a lot of negative baggage about school now. I'm all for encouraging children to achieve and challenge themselves, but the all-or-nothing approach has proven to be very stressful on my daugther and our family.
