About the Provider
Having a picturesque view of the beautiful Catoctin Mountain range, the school boasts two fully equipped computer labs, an inviting media center, and special art, music and physical education areas. Our staff, parents and community members work collaboratively to create an environment that supports our school mission: "We all work together so that we grow in our brain, heart and body power."
Thurmont Primary provides a welcoming, safe environment. Our students focus their energies on building their "brain power" as teachers provide quality instruction, attending to their own professional growth via staff development opportunities.
In addition to developing brain power, children are encouraged to build their heart power. All members of the TPS learning community are expected to model behaviors exemplifying the six pillars of character outlined in the "Character Counts!" program: caring, citizenship, fairness, respect, responsibility and trustworthiness. Children are also expected to follow school rules and become problem solvers as they reach resolution in a peaceful and kind manner.
A joint Parent Teacher Association (PTA) supports both Thurmont Primary and Thurmont Elementary and offers opportunities for parent and community involvement. The PTA plans for numerous family events and generously supports instruction via a volunteer program and funding for field trips and cultural arts programs. As a result of community collaboration and the energy and efforts extended by students, staff, parents and community members, Thurmont Primary is a school where we work, learn and care.
