Thurmont day care stands up against other "national franchise" schools as a great daycare at reasonable cost. I paid Goddard outrageous tuition and haven't noticed a significant difference in quality of education or intellectual advancement between Goddard and Thurmont Daycare. PLUS, it's convenient to our small town. **Before rushing to judgement, I would research daycares and owners then decide** The claim of Racism appears erroneous- a disgruntled competitor or parent spreading awful rumors**
Context- Daughter and niece still attend Thurmont Daycare from 2mo old- present (4+ in 2026). My niece is bi-racial and at NO TIME has the owner, manager, or teachers exhibited racial tendencies. In fact, they are extremely patient, professional & pleasant. Our girls thrive at Thurmont Day Care so much so, when I took my daughter out for a long summer vacation, she was BEGGING to return!! In a neighborhood of kids all around 4, it is VERY obvious which kids attend daycare- our girls (and 1 neighbor boy, also at Thurmont) are incredibly bright, with PERFECT speech, high level intelligence, and precocious- curious and engaged. I feel its in part due to the hard work and dedication of Thurmont Daycare teachers and instructors. Thurmont has a structured routine encouraging a calm environment the kids follow without question. I'm impressed when picking up or dropping off (with 4 or more classes on 1st level) I've NEVER witnessed an unruly child, seen a child screaming tantrum, OR a teacher reprimanding. It seems that everything is totally under control. Children thrive where there is mutual respect, within a structured caring environment. Dont rush to judgement- this is a top-notch school to provide entry level education, excellent PreK preparation and structured discipline with compassion. I am confident my little one will be well prepared for Kinder.
Owner was video taped standing with known KKK members laughing along as they yelled racial slurs to black people at a protest. I would not want my child being taught by someone that is filled with so much hate and ignorance.
The owner/director or this facility actively participates in rallies promoting white supremacy and confederate ideologies.
The owner of this business (and family) have publicly displayed support of deeply racist thoughts, speech, and actions and have shown themselves to be affiliated with the KKK. Pictures, video, and other information is available on many social media pages.

About the Provider
Many of our teachers have have been working together at Thurmont Child Care Center, Inc. for more than 20 years, creating a warm, secure, and "family-like" atmosphere for our children. The continued education of our teachers, helps to provide the most fulfilling educational experience for each child.

| Findings: At the time of inspection, LS was approaching one of the infant classrooms, when the lead teacher walked behind LS and reentered the room. Only an aide had been present alone in the room with three infants during nap time. LS was shown a substitute log and lead teacher explained that the aide was substituting while she conducted an interview for 15 minutes. LS explained that a substitute should not be used for someone who is present, and should only be used when a staff member is absent. A substitute should not be used for a staff to perform other job duties, and the staff/child ratio for a group of children under two should be maintained at all times during rest time. | |||
