My son was the victim of gross negligence on the part of Temple Sinai Preschool, specifically by certain staff and ultimately by the Director, Sheila Purdin. My son was physically harmed by one student starting in the middle of April of 2021 and it continued through to July of 2021 when we removed him from Temple Sinai Preschool. We would have removed our son sooner from Temple Sinai Preschool however the staff at Temple Sinai Preschool and the Director, Sheila Purdin, assured me after the first incident that this one student would receive assistance to teach that child how to deal with anger and violence towards other students and staff. In addition, we would have removed our son sooner from Temple Sinai Preschool however the staff at Temple Sinai Preschool and the Director, Sheila Purdin, misrepresented and lied to us about how often and the severity of the harm this one student was causing my son and other children and staff at the Preschool. After speaking to other parents at Temple Sinai Preschool, we learned that this one child had also caused physical harm to their child. In April of 2021 my son came home with a very large gash in his hand. This injury was the result of the one student digging his finger nail into my son’s hand. I was verbally informed about the incident and was told that my son was bleeding and crying after the incident. Six days later my son came home with bite marks on his arm. This injury was the result of the same student biting with full force on my son’s arm and leaving full, top and bottom teeth marks. Between April of 2021 and July of 2021 there were repeated incidents. My son would describe his day at school and depict another incident with the same student who physically harmed him, another student, or teacher. The next day, when I questioned staff at Temple Sinai Preschool and the Director, Sheila Purdin, I was told children have a creative imagination. The final straw was the last week of July 2021. On Monday, July 26, 2021, I dropped off my son at Temple Sinai Preschool. Before I pulled away I personally observed the same student push my son and then bite his arm. I parked the car and then ran out to comfort my son. During the time it took me to park my car and run to my son no staff member from Temple Sinai Preschool came to my son’s aid. Then on Tuesday, July 27, 2021 my son fell and hit his head in the playground; he suffered a bump on his head. My son told me that he was crying from the incident. Temple Sinai Preschool did not inform me about this incident when I questioned them about it the next day. On Friday, July 30, 2021, my son came home with large gashes up and down his arm and it was very clear that he was bleeding from those injuries and crying from the pain. This injury was the result of the one student digging all of his finger nails into my son’s arm. I was verbally informed by the Director, Sheila Purdin, that a small incident occurred at school. Essentially the Director, Sheila Purdin, down played the severity of the incident. When I further questioned her about the incident, I was told that the same child physically harmed my son and the staff could not get to my son fast enough to stop the injury. When I picked up my son from school that day, the staff at Temple Sinai Preschool and/or the Director, Sheila Purdin, did not have the decency to bring my child to me. They sent the security guard to bring my injured son to me. The injuries sustained from that incident lingered on for 3 weeks. My son had visible signs from the large gashes up and down his arm.
