I have used this provider for less than 6 months

After much reflection and discussion between my husband and I, we decided to leave Sunny House Day Care. We had concerns about the dogs around our child. We didn’t like how they jump ed up on me or my husband. On one occasion when my husband arrived to pick up our child, he bent to pick her up and the larger dog came within inches of his face while our child was walking up to him. It was that instance that made us wary of the dogs. My husband has approximately 40 years of experience living with and raising dogs. He has seen how trusted family pets have turned on their masters while being startled and subsequently put to sleep. We also didn’t like how they seemed to overwhelm Our child when they come up to her and get in her face during arrival time.

In addition, the days that were available were an issue and continued to not meet our needs and they limited my husband’s hours at work. Later, after giving notice and upon picking up my child’s belongings, provider said de didn’t know days was a problem and she could’ve offered the days we originally wanted/needed.

Also, the rigidity of not being able to have unpaid vacation days with notice and not being able to send our child to daycare the day after shots is an inconvenience as well. I understand this is provider’s form of income, but I feel it’s not right that provider can take multiple paid vacation days and we subsequently didn’t get any unpaid vacation days. For example, I paid for Christmas Day and the day after and received no service for that. Unfortunately, I was also unable to send or child the week after Christmas due to a family emergency and I also paid for both days with no service. So we went two weeks with no service and yet, we had to pay. Perhaps it’s a petty complaint, but it’s a problem for us, nonetheless. I have been with other providers who have offered unpaid vacation days to their families. And that’s part of what I’ll be seeking in the future.
I gave two week notice, provider did not accept two week notice after I laid out my concerns and discharged my child immediately. Which is what I hoped she would do. Provider is great with kids, I am disappointed how she responded to our concerns and was snippy with my husband. It’s a shame.

I have used this provider for more than 6 months

We used this provider, full-time, for roughly a year. Although there were a few issues of professionalism in the beginning, they were easy to overlook initially as the care given at Sunny House was compassionate and sound.

That abruptly changed one Friday morning after receiving a text from the provider letting us know that she was going to be cutting our child's hours to part-time (Monday and Friday only) starting immediately the next week. In Sunny House's provider contract, it was required for us to give a 2 weeks notice of any departures or cutting of hours, this same common courtesy was not extended to us and we were left high and dry scrambling to find care for our child on a single day's notice.

We believe this was directly related to the census and the ability to take on additional children at our expense. At the time this occurred, Sunny House had a part time and full time position open. Our best guess was that a new family with two children was interested in full-time. Our hours were then abruptly cut... Although the care at Sunny House was good, we would not recommend this in the future due to such highly unprofessional practices... BE VERY CAREFUL!
