About the Provider

Pineywoods students at all grade levels are provided a rigorous program of curriculum and instruction designed to help students meet the challenges of the 21st century. Instruction is based on the Texas Knowledge and Skills (TEKS), which is the foundational curriculum for all publically-funded schools in the state of Texas. PCA students take the TAKS test, which was developed by the state of Texas to measure mastery of the TEKS. Above and beyond the basic curriculum, Pineywoods emphasizes a college-bound culture that promotes strong literacy skills, excellence in math and science, and an awareness of both the social and cultural challenges of the world and an understanding of how the lessons of history are relevant for today. To facilitate this cultural perspective, PCA students have the unique opportunity to participate in the Core Knowledge curriculum. Core Knowledge is based on the work of Dr. E.D. Hirsch, a noted educator who developed the Core Knowledge framework as a way to ensure that today's youth have a cultural perspective and knowledge of the important lessons of history and culture so that they will be better prepared to become problem solvers in the new millennium.
