Findings: On this date a Mandatory Inspection was conducted. Licensing Specialist observed 23 school age children in the Multi Purpose room with the Director and 21 children in Room #251 with one teacher. Director stated that two staff called out sick today and they don't have a substitute. Licensing Specialist called Supervisor Sheri Neal to report non compliances. Director stated that she was notified by staff yesterday that they would not be at work today. Director stated that she notified her field supervisor yesterday by email and voicemail today that she would be under staff for today. Ms. Neal is attempting to contact someone at PGCPS After School office to see if they can send an additional staff to the facility. I have used this provider for more than 6 months

The security system does not always work, so parents have to check their emails daily to see if there is alternate instruction about entering. The staff is a group of young adults who just do as they are told by the Program Director, Mrs. Amy. She sits in her office for most of the time, but is responsible for writing up issues and having the discussions with parents. My child was playing a game of "cheetah and snakes" with her friends on the carpet, where she swung her fist to make her snake friends "slither away." They were only playing, however, one of the providers told Mrs. Amy that my child hit another student twice, while playing this game, and my child was suspended for 2 days. They do not care about the actual events that take place amongst the children. If they suspect, assume or misinterpret anything, your child will be written up, suspended or expelled from the program. They document EVERYTHING in a attempt to protect themselves, right or wrong, and do not care about the well being of your children. All they do is monitor negative behaviors, from their point of view, and constantly write the children up and suspend them. It's a nuisance to deal with and I highly recommend you DO NOT send your children here, nor to Northview Elementary. If your child reads ON GRADE level or above, the teachers are instructed NOT to help them with reading assignments or tests. My daughter got stuck on one word on her reading test, and flunked all of the questions because that one word was repeated in the questions. I asked the teacher why she did not help, and she sad that because my daughter reads on grade level, she has to do the test on her own with no assistance. However, the children in the same class who are reading below grade level, get to sit at a reading table with the teacher, and have the test read to them, and they receive assistance with the answers. They do not want ALL of the children to succeed and learn and make up dumb excuses to excuse the fact that they are not helping ALL STUDENTS. Just a selected few. Additionally, during my daily visits there to visit my child's class, the teachers play a lot of youtube videos to give instruction when learning something new, while they sit at their desks. The students are learning thru online videos, then asked questions about what they learned. Teaching done wrong....so wrong. I am going to be removing my child from this school asap. 2016
