Description: Comprehensive Kids is built on the philosophy that all children can learn. Established in March, 2007, we began with one classroom serving 12 children. We initially shared space with our parent organization, Comprehensive Center. The small staff of an Education Director, one teacher, teacher assistants and therapists proudly accepted the responsibility of developing this first classroom and setting the standard for future growth. The parents of our first group of children believed in our mission and provided us the opportunity to work with their children. We faced many unique challenges during our first year and are proud of our accomplishments.
In April 2008, the State Education Department approved our new facility located at 383 - 387 Grand street. We now have 4 classrooms, each designed and equipped to implement best practices in Early Childhood Special Education. Our new site includes private rooms where speech, counseling and occupational and physical therapy services are delivered. As we understand the importance of gross motor activities and the need for children to play and explore outdoors, we have developed a private playground for our children. The equipment provided is designed specifically to meet the developmental needs of our children while assuring a safe, fun experience.
Our language and literacy based curriculum addresses each child’s Individualized Education Program (IEP) while assisting them toward mastery of the New York State Learning Standards for Early Childhood.
Goals and objectives from all developmental domains are addressed through a balance of teacher-directed and child-initiated activities.
