Description: College Street Elementary School (CSES) was established in 1973 and is located on the same grounds as the former Manchester City School. Soon after its establishment, CSES became accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Over time, CSES became eligible to apply for Title I federal funds and became a Title I Schoolwide School in the 2007-2008 academic year. The school currently serves grades Pre K-5.
High achievement scores are a testament to the quality of teaching and learning taking place within the school, while outside playgrounds and a beautifiul campus welcome both students and visitors. Incorporation of specialty classes (physical education, art, and music) round out a varied and challenging curriculum taken directly from the TN Sate Curriculum Standards and the Common Core State Standards.
Students at CSES have the opportunity to participate in extracurricular activities, such as steel drum band, boys' and girls' basketball, cheerleading, Beta Club, Pep Club, Geography Bee, Spelling Bee, Track Club, ING Marathon, and 4-H.
CSES parents support and assist the school in many ways. Parents help with book fairs, field trips, and Open House. Some serve as room chairpersons for class parties and activities. They also volunteer to tutor students needing extra assistance in specific academic areas. Parents organize fundraisers such as Cougar Catwalk and Winterfest, and collect donations from business/community sponsors to fund projects such as playground equipment, playground fencing, a basketball court, and a walking trail.
