About the Provider

Elizabeth's magnet for multidisciplinary learning, the Dr. Orlando Edreira Academy School No. 26, is designed to support the belief that all students can succeed. The school's program accommodates varied learning styles while providing a firm foundation on which students may build life skills. We, at School No.26, understand that the education of the whole child is key to the success of anyone who seeks to become a viable, caring, creative and innovative member of their community and of the world. We are dedicated to meeting the unique needs of each youngster in our care.
The Dr. Orlando Edreira Academy services a diverse school community of students who come to us from all areas of Elizabeth. Students enter the program through a lottery process and remain with us until they have completed the necessary requirements to make them eligible to move on to Elizabeth High School. Dr. Orlando Edreira Academy is fortunate to work with strong parents and community members, who eagerly participate in our school program in a variety of ways.
All members of the Dr. Orlando Edreira Academy family are encouraged to become continuous and collaborative learners. It is through an integrated approach to the curriculum that students make connections between and among the disciplines. These curricular intersections help students to come to a deeper and more meaningful understanding of the subject matter and its real world application. The arts, world languages technology and literature are used as common threads of learning throughout the program.

In keeping with the New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards, expectations for student achievement and growth are high. Students are challenged and asked to broaden the scope of what they ultimately hope to achieve, using benchmarks designed collaboratively with their teachers. Multiple indicators of success are utilized, including, but not limited to, portfolio assessment, standardized assessment, scoring rubrics and quarterly grade reporting. In 2007, this culminated in our achieving Adequate Yearly Progress in both elementary and middle schools Language Arts Literacy and Mathematics.
It is the ultimate goal of this program that all students are given the opportunity to learn and to find success. Some of these successes will be smaller than others, but each is a building block in the educational foundation on which an individual builds their future.
The Dr. Orlando Edreira Academy, is dedicated to providing the best possible experience for its students. Our program is based on a culture of caring, where students are encouraged to be reasonable, responsible and respectful. Here at the Dr. Orlando Edreira Academy, we have embraced the Keys to Excellence managed instruction program of the district. We seek to meet the district's Vision, Mission Statement and achieve the Five Priorities.
