Back in early December, I went to pick up my 5 year old Special Needs child from Bumblebee Kid's Learning Center across from Indian Creek Middle School. It was a Friday, Dec. 3rd. When I got to the door, the owner met me...which wasn't unusual. She told me that she could no longer keep my son because she didn't have enough "teachers" on staff. Now, when I first started bringing him there back in August, she only had 2 workers at that time. At this time I had seen several new additions to her staff and if I had to guess there was around 5 helpers on staff. I was told this on a Friday at 4:45-5pm. With no opportunity to find alternate plans for the upcoming week. Her only attempt to let us know THAT DAY, was her calling and NOT leaving a voicemail with my wife. Now I'm a teacher at Indian Creek directly across the street and she had known she could call me at anytime. My son road the bus there from Flint Hill Elementary and got there around 2:45 each afternoon and was there till approximately 4:30 each day. When I asked my son's school teacher if she knew of any possible options, she told us another daycare center, but further divulged to me that another student in my son's class had been told the same thing within the past week of me being told they couldn't keep him. This is clearly discrimination. My son has autism, but doesn't require any extensive supervision or extra work, so long as someone is in the general area of him. These things were discussed when I initially took my son to the center and they told me it wouldn't be a problem. My son came home with random bumps and scratches on his face on a more than one occasion and when I questioned her about it, she knew nothing. I chalked it up to possibly happening at his school and he is a boy and also playful and fearless and also because it was super convenient him being right across the street from me and for less than 2 hours a day. Since he has quit going to Bumblebee, those random scratches and marks have stopped. The only reason I waited until now to contact is because we needed to get information from the for taxes. I've also heard that my son and the kid in his class isn't the first time something like this had happened.
