Montessori School of Purcellville

Absolutely terrible experience. Within the first two months of enrolling my twin 2-year-olds, I was called 12 times to come pick up my daughter as they were, "unable to calm her down" during nap time. I worked with the school to transition my daughter as suggested, sending her half days for 2 weeks, then continued intervening at their request, while MSP stated they were "short staffed and had no one to sit with her if she wouldn't sleep during the designated time." After months of receiving calls about how these professionals could not "handle" a toddler, I made the difficult choice to remove her from the school. Even after meeting with the director who stated she believed my daughter had "fallen into a habit of her mother being called to pick her up..." which was of no fault of mine and that she wanted "correct this habit," there was no change.

My family tried speaking with Ms. Mallick after pulling our daughter to discuss the $2500 deposit which per the contract is to be used for the last month of enrollment. Only to be told she was unavailable time and time again for 4 months. This is the most unprofessional and inexperienced facility I have encountered in a very long time. I truly love the Montessori approach and it's so sad to see what we thought was a good establishment treat us so terribly.

Our son has been going for over a year and was in their preschool program. It's not a typical preschool, they follow Montessori methods which encourage children to be more independent. He really thrived there. He made lots of friends (was reserved before) and was always excited to go to school. We really like his teachers and I felt like he was truly learning through play. I read the first review and feel bad for that mom. However, I think she may have had different expectations than what Montessori teaches. I would highly recommend this school.

It's a nice brand new facility and some teachers are decent, but the management can be rude and Very focused on money, in my opinion. I was reprimanded multiple times for being too 'early' for drop off (at one point being 5 minutes early). There was always a rule we were not following completely (one day my son brought a backpack because his sister brings one to school, they told me not to do this again. It was against the rules. Another time he brought a stuffed dog and they said he couldn't have it and kept it in the office and said to not bring it again, etc.) My son really struggled there and didn't learn very much. He was extremely upset about going there (we had been at another preschool in the past and he now goes to another school. He has never been this upset or unhappy going to school). We ultimately decided to leave. When we spoke to the school about leaving they refused to give us back thousands of dollars which we had paid in advance, which I thought was quite poor form (As more than half the year was left).
