I have toured this provider's facility, but have not used its services

The director discriminated against my husband and I. On the phone she had a space for my son. We toured the facility and called her back within a few hours to inform her that we would like to enroll him. She never called us back. We left voicemails the next day and the following two days on her voicemail and with an Ashley and she never called us back. My husband called and spoke to someone this morning and she told us to come up and fill out the paper work. I left on my lunch to complete it, the "new" office lady gave us a packet and said to return it. I asked to fill it out onsite because we wanted him to start Monday and she kind of looked frazzled and said she needed to text the director, then suddenly, the director tells her that she filled the two spots yesterday and we could go on a waiting list. We politely declined. I say that we were discrimated against because we are African American and we explained to her that our child was really active and would be working with Child Guidance. I believe we were not called back on for both purposes and that the spot is still available. I will be following up with this with a lawyer. You should not treat people unkind especially with the facility being within a church. Unfortunately, the people seemed kind while giving the tour and its unfortunate that we had to deal with this!!!

About the Provider

Children's Place has earned a One Star Rating from Step Up To Quality, an initiative of the Ohio Department of Child and Family Services. We are an outreach ministry of the United Methodist Church in Stow. This program provides care, nurturing, and education to children in Stow and the surrounding communities. Children's Place strives to serve families in the spirit expressed in the church statement: "BIG ENOUGH TO SERVE, SMALL ENOUGH TO CARE."

Children's Place is open from 7 a.m. until 6 p.m. year round. We serve children from 18 months old through the fourth grade of elementary school. Children are transported to our program by the Stow Munroe Falls school bus system from Echo Hills and Holy Family. Special needs children are transported from Indian Trail.

We take the security of our students seriously. The classroom doors are locked during class-time, and we have installed a new keypad system on the entry doors to help ensure the safety of everyone.

Our student teacher ratio is kept low to help give each child the quality care they deserve. The toddler room (18 months through two and one half years) has a teacher to student ratio of 1 to 6. Our three year old preschool class has a teacher to student ratio of 1 to 10. Our four year old preschool class has a teacher to student ratio of 1 to 12. Our school age program has a teacher to student ratio of 1 to 15.

Our fees are competitive with other area day care centers. Because we are an outreach ministry of our church, we also accept children subsidized by Summit County and by Portage County. A sliding fee scale is available for families who qualify.
