I have observed this daycare on numerous occasions, and I would not recommend Naples Preschool Academy. In my opinion the worker/caregivers do not engage with the children, and even ignore rather respond to infants and toddlers who need attention. One, two, three year olds who are placed in daycare rely on worker/caregivers to provide for their physical, as well as, social emotional needs. Nurturing, sensitive adult - child interactions are crucial for the development of trust, empathy, compassion, and conscience. (Zeanah & Doyle & Zeanah). At this age toddlers struggle with sharing, turn-taking, and following rules, and have not mastered self control. Worker/caregivers that lack in training of conflict resolution skills, and do not provide approaches to play with peers are not providing a safe environment and early learning experiences. The worker/caregivers that I have observed in the two year toddler room used inappropriate discipline with standing/ridicule, shaming a child's behavior. This is prohibited Florida Statutes 402.305F.S. Worker/caregivers should have understanding of developmental play practices during social interactions and provide security, comfort, and encouragement to aid children appropriately reinforcing positive behavior.
