I am thoroughly impressed with the new management and level of care here. Everything is well organized. They are one of the few non-profit daycares in the area. I read the last person's review and I'm happy to say they have an entirely new staff and management. They provide all meals and snacks for the kids and offer before and after school programs. I absolutely love that we found this center.
First I'll say the good:
They are in a convenient location, and they provide service to and from Rocky River Schools. That's it.
The Bad:
Be prepared to be GUILTED into donating to some sort of cause every few days. And if you don't feel guilty enough, they will try to brainwash your children into guilt you into donating to their charity of choice (mostly for the church itself). Seems like a conflict, no? If they want to raise money, that's perfectly fine, but don't do it right by the freaking door you have to pick your child up. Every day I walk in there I get "Can you donate today? How about today? Okay maybe tomorrow?" It's like no... I don't want to today and I don't want to ever! I do my own charities that I personally believe in, that should be enough, I shouldn't feel harassed every time I pick up my children.
Next, they will bribe your children with candy. This builds unhealthy habits and gives them the idea that anytime they do something good they get candy. For a while my child was coming home with a small bag of skittles everyday. It hasn't happened as much lately, but still a really shocking behavior to see from a daycare service. I can understand treats for special occasions.
Next, the two teachers for the kindergarten/before and after care kids are EXTREMELY passive aggressive towards the children. For instance, "Ohh I guess we lost a cap to a pen, I guess we can't play with pens anymore, what are we going to do about the pen situation. It really takes the fun out of pens don't you think Ms. So-and-So" "Wow since so and so behaved a certain way I guess we can't do what we wanted to do, what do you think about that Ms. So-and-So?" They speak to each other (the two teachers) like that in front of the children and in front of ME! No shame!
Also, I've come to pick up my children early before only to see the after school teachers reading about the constitution to KINDERGARTENERS. And then witnessed them scolding them when they didn't want to sit still and listen. Guess what, as an adult I have a hard time sitting still and listening to the dry conversation about our nations history. Though I think the nature of the subject is very important, I don't see the value in forcing 5 - 9 year olds sit around and be forced to listen to a lady ready from a textbook....
Finally, I've witnessed numerous times the afternoon lady for the after school kids yelling at a disabled girl who doesn't talk. Physically yanking her arm up to get her attention and then getting within inches of her face and speaking loudly "STOP IT NOW OR ELSE" or else what?
I am beyond appalled that a daycare practice would allow this, not to mention one affiliated with a CHURCH!!
