About the Provider
Welcome to Virginia Stevenson Elementary! We are an award-winning kindergarten through fourth grade school known for our outstanding educational programs. Our staff is committed to creating a school learning community where all students have the opportunity to be successful through a diverse and challenging curriculum. Our faculty and staff communicate high expectations for all students to learn in a respectful, responsible and peaceful environment.
We place great importance on having students actively involved in learning. We use advanced curriculum strategies to enable students to become actively engaged in setting learning goals and working to achieve them. Students work in a variety of group settings and enjoy a wide range of experiences. Teachers work in harmony to provide rich experiences for children.
Teachers specializing in Title I reading and math, Academically Gifted and Special Education, music and physical education, support the work of classroom teachers in a variety of group settings. Special Projects or activities have included: Artists in Residence Programs, Entrepreneur Fair or Career Day, Ohio History Celebration, Reading Is Fundamental (RIF) Book Distributions and activities, Dayton Philharmonic Ensemble concerts, Student Choir, grade level music programs and theme-based culminating celebrations.
Our staff believes it is the shared responsibility of the adults at home, at school, and in the community to help children learn to be responsible for the growth of their minds, characters and selves. At Stevenson, students are challenged to set high expectations and are provided the tools to help achieve them. We nurture youngsters to respect and care for others. The staff stimulates children to develop personal responsibility and assists them in adapting to change in a secure, child-centered environment.
We are always pleased to meet with students, parents, and community members to answer questions, provide support, or share ideas. We value parent input as we try to prepare our students for the challenges, both in and out of the classroom. Our goal as a school is to provide every student with the opportunity to succeed to the best of his or her abilities and to excel in the areas in which their individual talents lie.
