Description: Since 1970, the USC School for Early Childhood Education (SECE) has provided comprehensive, high-quality early childhood education services to low-income children and families in the neighborhoods surrounding the University Park campus, including five fully licensed Head Start State Preschool child-care and development centers.
USC SECE is funded by a combination of federal and state funds, including a grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Administration for Children and Families, and a grant from the State Department of Education, Child Development Division State Preschool.
The USC School for Early Childhood Education provides instruction to about 600 children under the age of 5. The program has been serving low-income children and families in south Los Angeles since 1970.
Considered a role model for other preschools, USC’s School for Early Childhood Education emphasizes a high-quality education – and believes that health, mental health, nutrition and social services also belong in the equation.
USC operates five fully licensed Head Start State Preschool child-care and development centers serving children from three to five years of age, as well as an Early Start home-based program for parents, parents-to-be and children from birth to three. Open five days a week, September through June, the centers offer full-day, part-day, twilight and extended-evening programs.
Where possible, ChildcareCenter provides inspection reports as a service to families. This information is deemed reliable, but is not guaranteed. We encourage families to contact the daycare provider directly with any questions or concerns, as the provider may have already addressed some or all issues. Reports can also be verified with your local daycare licensing office.
