I have used this provider for more than 6 months

The director, Sam, in Fort Collins, is incompetent and remarkably unprofessional. My wife and I enrolled our daughter in Sunshine House in Fort Collins, Colorado last year when she was roughly one and a half years old. For context, last Spring (2015), she began getting very ill. After months of tests and even a visit with an infant oncologist, doctors were stumped. After multiple overnights in the Children’s hospital in Denver and months of sleepless nights, it was finally discovered that our daughter has a rare, albeit severe allergy to corn. Once we removed corn (which is in nearly everything) from her diet, she began to recover. Daycares in Denver kept giving her corn in one form or another which caused her to relapse, get ill, lose weight, etc. all over again. We decided that we wanted to move back to Fort Collins as our daughter was our number one priority and we visited multiple facilities here in town. Then an opening came at Sunshine House and when we met with the director, Sam, she asked why we were unhappy with the daycare providers in Denver and we told her that they were neglectful when it came to our daughter's allergy and they kept making her sick. Sam went on and on about SSH providing organic and fresh fruits and vegetables and that would never be an issue if we were to enroll June at Sunshine House. So we did. I wanted to express our total disappointment with Sam and the daycare provider’s incompetence around her allergy. I want to be clear, we are not some extreme nutritional family who nit-picks every little thing, all we ever asked is that they keep corn out of our kid. We gave them multiple lists with what she could and could not eat, they still fed her corn and she kept getting sick. We have provided large amounts of food for them to feed her from our home. My wife and I have had five meetings in less than a year with Sam and the teachers about simply reading labels and keeping “Corn, cornmeal, cornstarch, dextrose, and maltodextrin” out of the food items they feed her. We went as far as to ask for a copy of every food item they have in the facility and we highlighted what she could not eat. This was still not enough for SSH. Our daughter got very sick again, and my wife demanded to see the labels of the food they have been feeding her. Unfortunately, we discovered that they have been feeding her more corn than ever. There is cornstarch or cornmeal in the turkey, chicken, and tortillas, and they had been feeding that to her every day. We have always remained calm as this is a business surrounded by children, but we are simply dumbfounded. There is so much neglect around a simple thing not to feed our daughter and SSH is making her sicker than any of those other providers in Denver ever did. Sam stated that it wasn’t her fault and that we should just bring June’s food from home. We asked if we would receive a discount on payment if we were to do that and they said, “that’s a corporate issue.” Sam's intense lack of responsibility, let alone compassion for our poor girl who is in so much pain and discomfort blows us away. We did not know what else to do so we complained to corporate. Corporate was very upset at first, and willing to work with us; told us that Sam broke protocol and there was A LOT of paperwork that needed to be done around allergies before our daughter was even to begin her first day, including a meeting with the nutritionist and an 'OK' from corporate. Then a week went by with nothing. Apparently they had lawyered up because they immediately became unhelpful and told us it wasn't their responsibility and if our daughter was to remain there we would have to bring our own food. Our conversation with Corporate seemed to have gotten back to Sam as well because she was overtly rude to us, gave us dirty looks and if we had any complaints (including their myriad of billing issues) to 'go and call corporate'. We were shocked and concerned for our daughter's well-being so we took her out of SSH. She has been at an in-home provider for over a month now and has not been sick once. If SSH is unable to accommodate our daughter's allergy, then there is nothing we can do about that. But for a facility that scoffed at others for being incompetent when it came to food allergies, it is the worst perpetrator of all of them in our experience and I thought it should be brought to light. Our daughter enjoyed her time at SSH, and the college-aged teachers were great, but we believe she would enjoy it far more if it was not the sole reason she was so sick so often.
