Description:
The school was founded in 1984 by The First Baptist Church of Umatilla. It opened with two teachers, a part time director and 7 children. Throughout the years the school has grown to an enrollment of 150 children and a staff of 25-30. God has blessed this ministry and continues to do so.
On Saturday, June 5, 2010, a fire destroyed the entire building and everything within it. But that fire could not destroy or take away the foundation of the SONshine School! We saw a church and community rally together, and we opened again on Monday, June 7 on the church campus!
The support of our church and community has been incredible. Even though we miss our original school, we are so truly blessed by what God has provided. In June of 2013, the school and children's ministries moved into a beautiful, state-of-the-art, debt-free facility.
