I have 2 kids - 6 and 3. My oldest did not attend a Montessori and my youngest is currently attending PDX MC. Having experienced different care situations (small daycares, corporate daycares, nannies), I much prefer the montessori experience at PDX MC. I always knew that my child was well cared for, and loved. She started in the classroom when she was 2 and quickly developed a level of independence, self sufficiency and focus that was amazing for someone so young. I credit PDX MC for that. She is always happy to go to school. This school allows her pesonality to shine and she has really thrived under the love and care of the teachers and staff. I never had any doubts sending her to school, unlike the other situations I had with my older child where I had to literally peel him off of me every morning when I was dropping him off while also seeing the chaos in the classroom. I always love dropping my youngest off at PDX MC because the classroom is always so peaceful and kids are focused on their "work". I know that PDX MC works hard at maintaining that optimum environment for the kids, so there are rules around drop off, and coming in for a visit. It is different from the other daycare centres where you can practically drop in unannounced for a visit (if you are learning about the school). I appreciate that PDX MC does this, to limit the disruption around the childrens' learning.
I love Hillary. She is professional and nurturing at the same time and I know she always has our children's best intentions at heart. The teachers and administrators always have the time to discuss our child and her development and to work with us to ensure we have consistency between school and home. I've recommended this school to other parents who have enrolled their kids and are extremely happy.
On a sidenote - the kids here have better meals than any school I have ever beem to (and even better than the meals I have). Everything is organic, nutritious and home made and they accomodate all dietary restrictions.
I currently have 2 children at PDX-MC, and my oldest recently moved on ... all 3 have had the most wonderful early childhood experience there. It's such a relief to know that your children are not only well-cared for by trustworthy staff who are deeply committed to early childhood education, but also encouraged and nurtured and supported in every aspect of their development. It speaks volumes that my children often don't want to leave when we go to pick them up!
Furthermore, Hilary, the director, has been a fantastic resource for our family.
My (almost) 3 year old son has attended PdxMC since he was 10 months old and there is no other place I would even dream of sending him. The administrators are wonderful, caring, and highly knowledgable about children and their development. The teachers and assistants are highly trained, compassionate, and lovely with my son. I highly recommend this school to anyone who is interested in a loving, caring environment-- that is also environmentally friendly and offers nutritious, home cooked meals every day.
I am shocked to read the low review. My children (2.5 & 6) have attended this nurturing, loving school since it opened and we have always been pleased with it. Any perceived inconveniences must, surely, have been misunderstood. Yes, there are many routines and procedures in place. But each was created with the best interests of the children in mind. Hilary is amazingly cheerful, pleasant and professional, always.
We are so lucky to have the opportunity to send both of our children to PDX MC! The care taken in watching after and guiding our children is unparalleled. My husband and I are constantly in awe of how well-adjusted, intelligent and aware our children are, and can't help to recognize what a huge part their schooling has played. Hilary and the entire staff are a true gift to our family! Thank you PDX MC!
I have been a proud parent of PDX MC for over 2 and half years now, and could not say enough positive things about our experience with the staff, the facility and the education our children are getting at the school. PDX MC is a place of love, where your children will thrive and be supported based on their individual interests.
The administrative and teacher staff are incredibly professional, trust worthy and down to earth individuals. PDX MC has the lowest turnover that I have ever seen at a school, that speaks volumes about how they treat families and their staff.
We have been so happy at PDX MC and plan to see both of our children complete their primary education at PDX MC.
We are sorry that Katie had such a bad experience with Hilary. Unfortunately for Katie, she called us during the week that we were involved in the International Montessori Congress. Katie did not anticipate the lack of flexibility that we had during her narrow window of time to observe in our program and was unable to schedule a tour that worked on her timeline. We hope that she found a great fit for her family and her (at that time) unborn child.
The owner and director Hillary is one of the most unprofessional, rude, and irresponsible people I have ever dealt with. I would be very weary of sending my child to a place run by such an unpleasant individual.
