SSU Children's Learning Center is a full day university/community preschool licensed by theÿOhio Department of Job and Family Servicesthat opened its doors in 1999 and quickly established itself as a leader in early childhood education with the distinction of being the first nationally accredited program in Scioto County by theÿNational Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC)ÿin 2004.ÿWith a highly qualified staff of degreed teachers and university student teaching assistants enrolled full-time in degree-track programs, the Center provides diverse and fully integrated environments to develop young children's minds and transform self-directed, lifelong early learners into lifelong learners. Play is the work of young children, and the Ohio Department of Education (ODE) early learning content standards are implemented through a Developmentally Appropriate (DAP) curriculum that provides opportunities for discovery, exploration, and experimentation. With a full time director, secretary, and three teachers, the CLC serves preschool children and families in a lab school environment while preparing the next generation of future teachers and pediatric social science/health professionals, echoing the message that Shawnee State University is a great place to start!
